Spotlight on: Caterina Maiolini

When a common friend referred a new hair stylist for some editorial jobs I was doing, I would have never expected to find a very extrovert and loud Italian knocking on our door. Moreover I would have never expected to find such a reliable, punctual, proactive and skilled person, one of the best collaborators we had in the past months.

Preparation Caterina is one of those professionals who wants to get in the photo shoot knowing what she will have to do. She loves to know who the models will be, what their hair look like and what is the general direction for the styles she will have to create. Generally if I send her a link to a profile, she replies with her thoughts about the possible styles, bringing visual examples and personal opinion: it is great walking inside a shot knowing already that a part of the job has been set on the right track already.

From straight to curly and back, Caterina is quick and the results are great!

Execution I can honestly spend only good words about Caterina and her styles. A good hair stylist is, in my humble opinion, the one that is able to make an idea a reality on the head of a model. She always delivered what we agreed for, creating a look that once or twice have been up to expectation, every other time has been much more than that. Since the first time we worked together I have asked Caterina to let me know, approximatively, the time needed for any specific style. As photographer I need to plan the session and I need to know when my models will be ready, and having a person who is reliable makes my job easier. She is one of those that tells me a time and when the time is up the model is ready.

Followup During a session my eyes check the models' expression, the background, the lights, the models' poses, the settings and then a lot of time is spent developing that relation with who's in front of the lens to make the shot unique. Having someone making sure that models' hair are always as they should be means a lot and Caterina is one of those persons, always lending an eye during the sessions.
