Let them lower their defences
February 10th, 2010
While photographing people, we have realised that there is one big obstacle between them and a good photo: their defences. Being in front of a camera is a little bit intimidating, even without the camera between the photographer and his or her subjects. Being in front of the camera means feeling exposed and this, despite may appeal to some people, in the great majority of the cases, creates a sort of veil that block a photo from standing out. That veil can be read in the eyes, in the position of the body and in many small details. Many times...
Accepting advices
February 9th, 2010
I am a perseverant person, I am well aware of this. My capacity to stick to a cause and to an ideal is both one of the causes of my successes as well as my failure.
"I live, I learn"
The other day I was showing a different version of this photo to a friend, one of those people I esteem. When he saw it, in black and white, he expressed some positive judgement on it, things that, truth must be told, made me happy. He then asked me to see the original photo and underlined the fact that, in his opinion,...
Testing: a way of Networking
February 5th, 2010
One of the most important lessons I have learned in these years spent in London is that the ability to network with other people is a key if you want to push yourself forward. I heard a quote, long time ago: "It does not matter who you are, it matters who you know". It is not entirely true, but very much so.
In our photographic experience, Fabiana and I have tested a lot and are still testing. If, from one perspective, we want to improve our technical abilities, our photography and our model management...
Eight quick tips for applying to a casting call
November 6th, 2009
In the last months my role as Producer of the photographic project for The Round Peg has grown a lot. At first we were working with one or two models per session, with a team of 4 or 5 people, receiving fifty applications to the casting calls, but with our projects grew in size, our teams grew as well. Right now it is rare to have a team of less than 10 people between models, makeup artists, hair stylists, stylists, assistants and photographers. Our casting calls has grew as well, with clearer visions the usual number of applications is generally...
Disposable Society: the session
October 23rd, 2009
We can say, even before having seen the images from the camera, that "Disposable Society" was a success. Yesterday evening we had 11 committed people, who worked incredibly hard and who did a fantastic job to bring together a vision. It would be really hard to say who was the best in the studio or who was more committed, as everyone brought his or her heart in the preparation and execution od the shot. I know you still do not know exactly what it is about and I apologise for this, but before posting the very essence of this project...
